United in Faith Helping People in Need
Churches United of the Quad City Area is a cooperative association of 140+ churches representing more than 20 Christian Faith traditions in the greater Quad Cities area.
The ministries of Churches United include: 24 food pantries, 3 hot meal sites, Winnie's Place, a shelter for women, with or without children who are homeless and/or survivors of domestic violence, and Winnie's Wishes, a resale shop, whose proceeds directly benefit Winnie's Place.
The mission of Churches United of the Quad City Area is to Serve This Community, Revitalize the Church, and Celebrate Christian Unity. We fulfill this mission in several ways, including: direct service ministries, cooperative ministries, witness ministries, advocacy ministries, growth ministries and celebration ministries.
Another Senseless Act of Violence
We at Churches United are shocked and saddened by another senseless act of violence that has resulted in the death of children and adults. What many people fail to realize is that our children have lost the sense of innocence because they are drawn into the arena of violence, simply because they now sit in class wondering "Is this going to happen to me?" Perhaps the saddest of all is when we hear people rationalizing these situations by calling them the "new normal."
We are urging all congregations, pastors, and lay leaders that are part of the universal body of Christ to pray for all individuals who have been the victims of violence. We also are calling upon all churches to set aside a place in your worship on the next two Sundays to pray for parents, children, counselors and first responders that God will give them the strength and ability to overcome this season of senseless violence. We must remember the instructions from Jesus Christ: "Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the sons of God."
