Ecumenical Worship and Education Committee

Plans and implements our participation in all public observance (e.g., worship, celebration, commemoration). Current examples are: Yom HaShoah (Holocaust) Observance; Pacem In Terris; and the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. This Committee also plans, implements or supervises learning and nurture events that are ecumenical in nature. Current examples: CommUniversity and Christian Educators Worship. This Committee often partners with others. Currently meets the first Wednesday monthly at 4:30 p.m. at the Churches United office. 

Family Concerns Committee

This Committee focuses on ways to enable Quad City churches to provide more effective ministries to strengthen families. "A family is a household of people related by kinship or other close ties where adults provide security, care, and love for each family member." The Committee pays particular attention to meeting the needs of every generation, from babies, to youth, to the sandwich generation, to seniors.The committee coordinates Put A Smile on a Child in observance of Stand for Children Day. The Family Concerns Committee currently meets the second Tuesday monthly at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Moline. 

Finance Committee

This committee has oversight for all Churches United finances. The committee monitors income, expenses and the Endowment Fund and develops the Annual Budget to recommend to the Executive Committee and Board. The Treasurer of Churches United is a member of this committee. Currently the Finance Committee meets the third Thursday monthly at 4:30 p.m. at the Churches United office. Rev. Dr. Melvin Grimes is the Treasurer and Chairman of this committee.

Justice Issues Committee

Examines social issues in the community, region, nation and world, and drafts proposed "position statements" for referral to the Executive Committee and Board of Directors that will reflect the positions Churches United will publicly announce and endorse. The Justice Issues Committee also seeks ways for Churches United to be an effective advocate in areas of peace and justice on which the Board has already spoken. Meeting days and times set at the convenience of Committee members' schedules. 

Development Committee

Improves the communication between Churches United and the community and identifies fund development activities.

Membership Committee

The Membership Committee is currently sponsoring Ambassador training to assist in visiting churches and making the ministries of Churches United more well known. Staff person, Anne Wachal.

Shelter Ministry Committee

Oversees the operation of the Shelter, Winnie's Place. Winnie's Place will provide a safe environment for women and their children, a temporary shelter while women In need gain the skills and emotional growth necessary for successful independence. Meeting days and times set at the convenience of Committee members' schedules. Staff person, Kit Knittle.

Social Ministry Committee

Oversees all the ministries of Churches United, which provide direct contact with people in need or with other direct service agencies. Currently those ministries include: Food Pantry Networks, Meal Sites, CROP Walk, and CareLINK. Currently meets the third Wednesday monthly at 1:30 p.m. at the Churches United office.
