University of Illinois Extension Food Bus Special Project
The University of Illinois Extension Office will soon be offering a free monthly bus service to and from local grocery stores in Rock Island. This service will help create greater access to fresh and nutritious food for local residents through free and direct transportation. Providing such a route will help residents get the most economical use out of their SNAP benefits - saving them time and money. Shopping at major grocery stores is a good way to stretch out SNAP benefits and provides a larger variety of fresh, frozen and canned fruits and vegetables. This route will have several pickup locations and will service two major grocery stores, Hy-Vee and Aldi. The route will run under a three hour time period once a month, and potentially twice a month during the summer. Ultimately, this project will help foster greater access to fresh food, provide consumer education, and help empower residents to eat better and make better food choices for their children and themselves.

Thank You !

Doris and Victor Day Foundation for general operating, hunger ministry and shelter ministry.
