Thanksgiving in July
WE DID IT AGAIN!
The totals are in for Thanksgiving in July 2018! Over 15 tons of food, 13,965 grocery items and $2,452 in cash support for our community-wide food drive helps Churches United provide free food to the hungry, homeless and working poor in the Quad City Area.
All food and funds collected fill the shelves at 24 neighborhood food pantries and purchase food service products - disposable plates, bowls, utensils, napkins, sanitary gloves and trash bags - for the 3 hot meal sites staffed by Churches United volunteers.
THANK YOU to our generous local business sponsors - Fareway Stores in Davenport, Bettendorf and Moline; Caddy's Sports Bar & Grill, K&K Hardware, and Dewey's Cafe at the Library in Bettendorf; and QC Core Chiropractic in Bettendorf and Eldridge - where we placed donation boxes from July 1-31.
FYI: The items most requested by food pantry clients ALL YEAR LONG are:
- Baby Food
- Peanut butter
- Macaroni and cheese
- Rice and pasta
- Boxed instant potatoes
- Canned meat (tuna, chicken, Spam)
- Canned fruit and vegetables
- Non-perishable boxed meals
in 2017, Churches United of the Quad City Area distributed over 1 million pounds of food throughout Rock Island and Scott County. Food pantry shelves are frequently near empty during the summer months, breaks and holidays when the children are out of school. The food pantries struggle to meet the increased demand without cutting back on services. They depend on the community to help pull them together.
WE'LL DO IT AGAIN NEXT YEAR!
